Welcome to Body In Motion's New Blog!

Body In Motion Pilates Studio is Upper West Side's hidden gem.

We welcome you to take our fitness challenge and sign up for a private session today!

NEW WEBSITE:
In June we launched our new website packed with helpful information and gorgeous new photos of clients and the studio. Thank you to our lovely clients, Michael Trencher, Jennie Miller and Dana Oren for taking time out of their busy lives to strut their GYRO and Pilates stuff in front of the camera. Don't they look wonderful?

Apprentice Teachers:
Body In Motion would like to welcome our new apprentice teachers Jessica Taylor and Alexandra Hoge. For a limited time until 12/1/09, you can get a private session for only $50!! It's a great way to get a private session in this recession!

BIMPS Apprentice Program
We invite select teachers who are in the last few months of their training as well as those whom are newly certified to take part in our 9 month apprentice program, where they hone their skills under the watchful guidance of director Marcy Schlissel.
Jessica not only has a great personality, but is a professional dancer and combines her kinesthetic knowledge of the body with her Pilates training to make a skillful teacher. You will walk out of the session feeling taller and stronger!
Alexandra has a background in theatre, including training in the Alexander Technique. She loves working one on one with clients to create a session that challenges them and leaves them feeling great.

New Teacher Emily Stoeckel:
Emily comes from San Francisco with a boundless amount of energy. Her lessons are intense and focused! We all welcome Emily!

Email us at info@bodyinmotionnyc.com or call us at 212-595-5922 to make an appointment.

Gift Certificates:
Don't forget that the holidays are right around the corner. We now have gift certificates available for purchase online. Give the gift of health and wellness by going straight to our Gift Certificate Page. It's easy as 1-2-3!

De-Stress with Massage:
If you're stressed, tight, have chronic pain, or are training for a big athletic event, don't forget to visit our Orthopedic/Structural Integrationist. Dennis developed the massage therapy program at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Let Dennis's magic hands relieve your aching muscles and correct muscular imbalances.

Exercise Tip:
Have you been wondering why you can't feel your center?
Try this on for size!

Body Set Up: Lie on your back with your hands, one under the other, under your head. Knees are bent with feet flat on the floor hip bone width apart.
Inhale- 5 counts into your ribcage and feel your body expand.
Exhale-squeeze the air out of your body for at least 5 counts and squeeze your waist in as if you are tightening a pair of drawstring pants.
Repeat but for the 2nd EXHALE,
Curl your head and chest upwards towards your knees with just the bottom ribs in contact with the floor (bra line-ladies)

Remain curled:

Inhale-5 counts keeping upper body curled
Exhale-5 counts squeezing your "Drawstring pants"
Repeat 10 sets

Practice daily for a week and see if you have any more awareness in your waist area.

Thanks for checking in on our new blog. Stay tuned for more exercise tips!
